On the other hand, this year has seen a significant growth in players like the Traores, Jones and George. Those four are a core like we might not see again for a while as LB fans. Obviously, if they transfer out, it is crushing. But, if you were to bring back Monson on a one year deal, he is recruiting with one hand tied behind his back. We saw how well that turned out with Thompson and Silva.
My view is that if you were offer Dan an extension, it would need to be at least three or four years so he can recruit, or you are setting us up for failure. My view is that is unlikely.
I love how the assumption is that Dan would or wanted to accept a one-year extension. There is ZERO guarantee of a back-to-back with the way this team plays.
The recency bias is real with some of you. I get it. Feels good that the drought is over. But please spare me if you think what’s happening is an indication of some kind of turnaround. This is the same team that lost 5 in a row, the same team and coach that have failed to build consistency. Took us 12 years to get back here.
Let’s be excited, heck, let’s celebrate these guys and the coaches. But this isn’t the foundation to build on and one more year won’t change anything.
If keeping Dan is a requirement for keeping Kader, we MUST give Dan a one-year extension. Not to mention that Basile probably only stays if Kader stays. We can go back-to-back.
