It's not the old world of athletics anymore: new leadership + need a strategy to rally folks around.
The fact that there is a new AD and a new basketball coach already is sparking interest from folks who tuned out (myself included) for a few years. But there's still work to be done.
NIL is a combination of donors, corporate/non-profit deals, etc. - the idea is that it helps with living expenses, etc. that the athletics department does not provide (see the Men's Volleyball collective as an example). see: https://www.si.com/fannation/name-image-likeness/news/san-diego-state-hc-brian-dutcher-grateful-for-nil-collective-wad9
And no, it does NOT help that Conoley and her team have alienated a big chunk of alumni. Funny that she is quick to make public statements then points out challenges...arguably self-inflicted.
They made it harder...but my hope is that the new energy in athletics could help heal some of this... we'll see.
Looking forward to seeing where Smitheran's head is at in mapping for the future.
GO BEACH
I am curious as to how this will really work for LBSU? It appears the NIL monies would all go to the athletes.
We have athletic department that is in dire need of money.
So what happens now? Will they want donors to give priority to donating NIL money? We have a difficult time just getting donors to donate to the athletic dept.
A few years ago out Alumni Relations was greatly changed and many alumni who donated no longer have anything to do with LBSU.
I will not donate to NIL. I will continue to donate to the athletic dept.
Academic Depts at LBSU are also in need of donations now.
How can all of this possibly happen?
