One quick note: Monson did not write that story. The story is much juicier if it takes the he was wronged angle. I have heard and watched a number of interviews since his release where he was very complimentary to LBSU and acknowledged that it was a great job. But, in a newspaper article, he could have said all of that and the reporter chose not to report it, since it undermines the wronged coach narrative of the story. My experience in dealing with the press, is the journalist often has a story they want to write, and will ignore things that don't fit that narrative.
Agree. That's one thing that chaps me just a tad: a little bit of playing the victim. I feel like LBSU has been good to him: especially compared with power conferences and other more insanely demanding gigs, where they're not as nice.
The program was in sore need of energy - strongly demonstrated by the excitement around Acker. Dan was treated nicely all things considered.
GO BEACH
I wish Dan nothing but the best but I wish the media would tell the WHOLE STORY. They are acting like CDM was doing an awesome job here at Long Beach the past few years. Let's be honest....He caught lightening in a bottle and won 3 games in 3 days at the BWT. If the team had played the way they did in the BWT for the BW regular season we would have won the BW. Smitheran rolled the dice by firing Dan before the BWT and rolled box cars. Even with the talent we had this year and last we unachieved both years. Dan needs to stop acting like the victim at Long Beach as he should have been canned 5 years ago but Andy "the tin man" Fee didn't have the heart to get the job done. Wherever Dan ends up I wish him the best but like others have said it's time to turn the page, close the book and put it back on the shelf.
It was fun watching Dan cut down the nets. Watching the players dash into the locker room and back out. Jumping into the stands. What a great way to go out.
Andy could have fired him but didn't. I wish Dan well.
Unless we play them. I can't hear how CDM was the Cinderella at Gonzaga anymore. He came did a great job for some years and below average in many more. He's gone and we have a NEW COACH!! Let's go
Acker!!
