has millions of customers at different levels, brand awareness is pretty critical. I bring it up because if you think someone like Boeing is ready to jump in on this just because they’re a large local presence, I’d just say people spending hundreds of millions on an aircraft probably aren’t swayed much by your level of support for college athletics. I’m also guessing this isn’t “net new” money
being offered up by FedEx, quite possibly just a redirection of funds from what they gave the ADept already. As several coaches have pointed out, kids aren’t even really asking about facilities anymore, all they care about is the bag. We aren’t quite
to the point of the school physically paying athletes, but telling traditional doners to give money to whatever collective instead
basically does the same thing.
The good news for Long Beach, our program isn’t that large, we don’t need that kind of money. I’d like to hear what Smitherins
strategy and potential composition of participants is. I don’t think a consultant would look at our situation and say it gets fixed by a single donor.
