LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Sydney Woodley of Women's Basketball was selected by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association as a member of the 2023-24 Scholar-Athlete Team, recognizing her accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
The award is selected by the I-AAA ADA, a group that represents the interests of Division I non-football schools. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials.
Woodley is a journalism major with a perfect 4.00 GPA, and was a starter for the Long Beach State women's basketball program last season, averaging 10.8 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. A defensive standout, Woodley made 104 steals over the season, ranking fifth nationally across Division I at 3.35 steals per game.
Only 10 other student-athletes competing in women's basketball were honored, representing programs such as DePaul, Gonzaga, Creighton, Saint Louis and Pacific. Woodley was the only Big West recipient.
