CBU/Utah Valley still might come looking out of desperation. WAC is rumored collapsing again with WCC defections, and Big Sky might be losing Northern Colorado as a result to Summit. Missouri state going FBS.
Plus I think we could see west coast schools struggle more with football soon due to Newsom budget woes. SJSU hardly has a stadium anymore, Sac State is rolling but budget is ehhh. Portland State can’t play anywhere near their campus, Big West might have choices soon for more members, if desired. All Big West departments will be battling with NIL.
.
The question would have been, could you have held on to a school like Grand Canyon? You can make your bones as a potential at large team in the WCC simply by competing at a high level against Gonzaga and St. Mary’s. That’s a tough ask, but the league rules pretty much mandate they have to come in and play on your home court, another huge selling point to be in that conference. Bryce Drew’s getting paid a lot of bank to coach there. Basketball wise, there’s no real reason to play in the BW if WCC is an option.
Reporting saying Grand Canyon and Seattle to the WCC.
Seattle is ehhh, but Grand Canyon has invested in athletics, and was looking for a non football home.
I said it back then, but GCU instead of Bakersfield made sense. Maybe they said no, but the CSU /UC politics overshadowed what would have been a committed member.
Could also signal the issues at LMU and other members are larger than previously reported.
