Playing D1 opponents at home will bring in a lot more fans than playing D2 or D3 schools. We know we can’t pay to get Duke to come here. But playing Portland will cost a lot less. Get these schools to come in on a home to home basis.
We used to have the best home attendance in the Big West except for Hawaii. Let’s get that back and starting putting butts back in the seats.
While I don’t like the 1non D1 exhibition games, especially as something season ticket holders have to pay to watch, let’s stop
with the nonsense that by playing these games somehow limited our ability to play other D1 games. The real fact is there’s a limit on the number of D1 games you are allowed to schedule each year and we’ve consistently schedule to that exact number for years (decades). Hopefully we’re able to get our programs to a place where the home offerings improve, but it’s going to have a lot more to do with the money coming into the program, especially long term, than the coaches philosophy. If Jane was smart she’d help Acker along the first season (or two) and help in getting a couple of decent home games.
Last years Net rankings for Portland was 300 and for USD 232. Still, this is much better than playing non Div 1 schools.
Vs Portland 11/16
At USD 12/10
