Meyer has been up and down this season but the bad passing has not allowed her to get into any type of groove. I will give her some slack right now. LBSU does not have an out of system left on the roster and that includes Agi who is redshirting. These hitters need good sets to put the ball down effectively and they are not getting those. Coaches need to train these hitters up on in the tooling, etc but you need hitters that have the natural ability/gifts to hit all the junk coming their way because of the bad passing. If the passing improves the team will be successful in conference and it it does not then they can lose on any given night to the bottom of the conference. Serving and passing is the king.
It is more than that. When the ball is passed the setter does not put the ball on the pin, it is either too close or too far away, resulting lollipop hit, free balls to the opponent. But as a very good coach said one time, a good hitter will adjust to make a strong hit. Soft hits take too much time and allow the opponent to stay in system and get strong hits. I did not say where to start, but I would do it with the passing. If you do not pass properly, you do not play. There seems to be a lack of discipline in both the front and the back court. I also noticed a lack of talking. Soon we will have campfire balls.
The team cannot pass the ball so therefore they cannot run a fast offense. The Beach is so often out of system and the lefts are not great at hitting out of system balls. When the team is in system they can put the ball down but Meyer's has her track shoes on right now.
Both Harris and Maxwell are taller and more physical than the upperclassman playing on the left. Hopefully with time, reps, and game experience both will be signifiant contributors by conference.
All the top teams in the Big West want to run a fast offense, maybe outside of Cal Poly, but you have to have the personnel to run it effectively. CSUF has to run a fast offense because they are super small so they need to stay in system to win matches.
I watched the match and I came away with the impression that the Beach is running a slow offense which detracts from the people on the team. Fast offense of Brian Gimmillaro and Debbie Green has gone by the wayside. VB is a game od microseconds and they need to speed the game up.
In contrast, I watched Foolertoon defeat Gonzaga in three while running a very fast game coached by Nicole Vargas Polster, Sabrina Hernandez from the 1989 national champion ship team and Long Beach defensive specialist, Rich Sato. They blew the Zags away in three. Check the box scores. The Beach can use a faster offense.
This first and foremost. Secondly they can not hit over the block. They are not hitting high enough off the block. We need skywalkers like Jada Davis and Presly Yates. Presly may not know the offense, but she has the hops. The coach is faced with some dilemas.
What I saw is we can do OK in the BWC but as of now OOC matches are going to kill us. I think Natalie need to call Brian and Debbie for a days primer on obtaining a faster offense.
This time 3-2.
