"The Pac-12 is adding Utah State as its seventh member and is in discussions with basketball powerhouse Gonzaga to join the rebuilding conference in 2026, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Monday.
Utah State and UNLV were the main targets for
the Pac-12 after a group of American Athletic Conference schools decided to stay put, following a pitch to join the rebuilding Conference of Champions. But the Mountain West was
working to keep its remaining schools together and
UNLV’s decision remained uncertain Monday night."
Back on life support after beginning of day reports we’re they solidified the remaining members and Air Force and UNLV were staying. Then Utah State announced intent to leave, and back to drawing board for everyone, 7 in each conference.
One thing for sure is fellow CSU SJSU is not in discussions. An already torn down stadium will do that.
If Aloha stadium was on schedule to open anytime soon, maybe Hawaii would get more consideration. But with rumors of Gonzaga to Pac-12, Hawaii football only could be next blow to Mountain West.
But if Utah State is going, another ~$25mil to Mountain West to figure it out with FCS and NMSU for now.
