I agree. But if a legislature that funds only 27% of the university’s cost should not dictate what programs the university has or wants.

The outgoing Berkeley chancellor had a good suggestion, elevate some CSU’s to UC status. If that happened for we would avoid line budgets for whole budgets ala the UC. It would solve some of Conoly’s problems, but it will not bring football back.

Non Starter, but fun to talk through. If Mountain West implodes more options could happen, but really you only have 4 potentials currently,

Cal Poly
Davis
Sac
San Diego

Then some others...
Southern Utah
Utah Tech
(Weber)
(NAU)

But football is dying slowly in California. It will survive, but not part of culture the way it is in other parts of the country. No D2 programs left. FCS is struggling. Cal in huge debt, Fresno can't get a stadium built. Even D3 SCIAC has lost two members in Whitter and Oxy dropping football.

Ccman brought up on the toxic board, the possibility of a california football conference. Because the Mwc has a spot in the 16 team playoff, a jump to the mwc is more likely. This leaves the bwc wcc and big sky looking at adding members in the next year or two.
