The SunBelt and Conference USA schools were the easiest targets as their buyouts were much less. The American teams that are in demand are much harder to pry free.
FCS is the $5mil fee and that's it, mostly. But not many in the footprint that would really interest either. Sac St has local support, as does Tarleton, but each is a huge reach to pull up to FBS football.
The offers will go up. Those that stayed together in MW have improved their bargaining power, but maybe not their long term viability or media position?
Texas State University is located in San Marcos. The enrollment is 38,000.
Since when is Texas State a school? Ive never heard of them but my guess is the conference wants a Texas presence for tv rights.
Texas State is what I meant, not UTSA.
Take that back, UTEP officially Mountain West.
They are football conference solidified at this point, now need an all sports member, which is a little easier to find without football if you are fine with one team not playing football ala Wichita State in American.
UTSA offer will go up from the Pac.
GCU/CBU/Denver/UTA all come to mind.
Lost in all this is that the WAC is effectively dead. down to 7 in 2 years, no one heading there. I doubt any D2 schools are excited to move to D1 in this age.
Just announced this morning. Pac still needs a football school, but their other sports can be called a conference, and Gonzaga is a huge pull branding wise.
UTEP/Texas State are on the clock.
