Beach is 2-0 in the BWC. UCR is 2-0.
Beach has won 5 in a row. UCR is 4-1 last 5 games.
Beach started ok, got destroyed for a while, found itself and is playing well now with a 6-8 record. Exceeding expectations lately.
UCR 8-5, more consistent results with a few bad road losses. Seems to be meeting expectations.
UCR is picked to finish in the top half of the BWC, while the Beach picked in the lower half.

UCR has some size, of note the last two in the list avg 13 minutes a game and get a lot of rebounds. Hargress is one of the best So guards around but is a very high volume shooter. Deny him and UCR probably has problems, let him rip and we have problems. In the blowout loss at Santa Clara and bad loss at Idaho he was held to around 12 points.
If we focus a lot on denying Hargress, we'd still have to deal with Pickens, Moses, and Strauss all guards with good 3 pt %. I don't think double teaming is worthwhile except to throw a different look at Hargress now and then. Maybe trap him on inbounds plays so someone else has to at least get the ball up court and Hargress won't be speeding downhill and making quick plays on us.
Bench rebounding seems like an area we'll need to focus on. DMX has been giving us solid board work off the bench, too bad Nagy seems like a grades situation he'd be perfect to offset their rebounding. Johnson and Denson can work the starting unit rebounding...DMX and Lloyd need to crash the boards along with our guards. Richardson has looked good lately and will get minutes, but UCR can probably shove him around so he'll need to use his speed and length advantage to be effective.
UCR is well coached, Magpayo teams don't usually have bad games, we can't rely on that.
LB Team Stats
Scoring margin -2.8 but think of all the blowout losses early
FG% 44%
3 pt% 34%
FT% 72%
Rebounding margin -0.1
Assists / TO -2.3
We need to take care of the ball better!
I predict a close game, maybe in the 60's and a bit of a grinder if we can slow Hargress...and I think our chances for a win are pretty decent. If we don't slow Hargress, it will take a stellar shooting and rebounding effort to win.
GO BEACH!
