Seems the major driver for Sonoma State was a steep reduction in enrollment. What I hear is every year we turn away tens of thousands of applicants. But can we sustain DI and remain competitive with even 'mid major' type of universities...I doubt it. Too many funding issues to resolve let alone the NIL slush funds needed to compete.

With the Pyramid decaying and ridiculously expensive to fix or replace even with a standard 4,000 seat arena, its feeling like that final straws are loading down our camel and we're limping along hoping for a miracle.

We're headed to a DII type of athletics program at best. Ultimately its all about education at a public university and unless there has been a sustained, expert push for alumni / corporate / other non-gov't support, you might as well pack it in, ride out those few remaining years, and move on. Sucks to say it, but I don't think we have enough non-gov't financial momentum, not even close. Our last shot might be if the new president is some sort of charismatic fundraising guru but they could also be a hatchet-person.
