FERP is only for faculty and has existed forever. It does not apply to Staff. Please get all the facts to be accurate. There is no early retirement program for staff.

Sorry to jump in on this, but when you read the article in the Current, there is a tab about Chris Lowe of the Shark Lab and his retirement. In addition to information on Chris and his decision, the article touches on the early retirement program that faculty and staff are taking in anticipation of the further budget cuts coming.
