Burns Intercollegiate was deeper field than Gator Invitational overall. SDSU kid climbed higher after T8 in invite we were in. Stanford and ASU tournaments are going to be deep as well. Plenty of opportunity for Cantlay to face off against top notch talent. Ian is doing amazing , and Cantlay is going to compete for individual honors all season. ![]() https://www.pgatour.com/article/news/university/2025/02/19/floridas-ian-gilligan-wins-gator-invitational-moves-to-no-2-in-pga-tour-university-ranking Ex LB Golfer Ian Gillian killing it for U of Florida golf. The guys on this rankings are college seniors vying for points earned in college events, the better the event field of teams the more points, and of course you need to play well. He’s up to #2 in the country, up from around 20th early in the year. We have a really good men’s golf program, but there’s a bit of a ceiling for something like this with the quality of events we play in. The best thing for Ian is if he continues his stellar play he’s got a legit chance to earn a PGA Tour card for next year without having to play on a satalite tour or qualifying school. Last summer he played 2 PGA events as an amateur, and made both cuts. Certainly a ways from becoming a Xander S, but at this stage he’s a good bit farther along. He always rep’d us very well at the Beach and had to get through a lot physically to be where he’s at. I root for him. |
