Big West Commissioner Dan Butterly addresses reporting by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy that the league was set to vote on extending invitations to Cal Baptist and Utah Valley last month: “LIke any any good athletic director when a coach departs or when you're letting a head coach go, you've always got three to five coaches in your pocket that you want to look at to fill those shoes, and it's the same as a conference commissioner with member institutions. If an institution were to depart, do you have institutions that you may have interest in pursuing? The board of directors did meet on Friday (February 28), we continue to discuss the future of the membership. Can't give you any details yet but hope to make an announcement soon.” Butterfly also says the league could go beyond 11 teams. “We continue to look at the western landscape – we’re not going to look like the ACC or the Big Ten and go all the way out east to play Big West conference games.”
