I was told months ago that a test of a coating would be applied to one side of the Myd. I suppose that is what you saw. Previous Message
Noticed just to the north of the lower green entrance/exit, 3 or 4 panels had tan or beige looking paint or primer on them for about 1-2 feet, guessing its some sort of primer but its only a wild guess maybe someone understands what is going on there. Previous Message
I think allowing an asset like the Pyramid to just go away would be short sided, and the CSU should figure it out and rebuild a new roof, costs be damned.
Finish the 4th side at the same time (with some seats but mainly an alumni/beer deck area with some club style seats. Build extra locker/department space below at floor level).
Reclaim the 49er name. Leave Pete be. I don't agree with it, but a compromise to property publicize the 49er name again. Previous Message
And attendance revenue was allowed to be driven down to nearly nothing by tolerance of inferior coaching. Previous Message
Public knowledge on campus for 2025-26:
• All depth taking 9% budget cut
• Tuition up 6% each year for at least next four years.
• PLUS awaiting the BIG annual hit for this NCAA House settlement to pay off former athletes for being average.
In an athletic dept already listing $500k per year, where does that money come from?
• Oh, and the Pyramid has a$50 million leak Previous Message
I am reposting this because I believe it is very relevant to your post.
I see Long Beach State athletics as being at a crossroads. The failure of Long Beach State athletics has many fathers, which have all conspired to leading to near certain future D2 status, or to borrow from BF, potential extinction. His contention is quite a possibility.
Note how many are self inflicted versus those imposed upon the program by outside forces.
Facilities in crisis.
Title IX.
State budgetary issues.
Lack of departmental leadership.
Lack of university leadership.
Alienation of alumni.
Alienation of boosters.
Stale flagship program.
Failed branding.
Failed "new" mascot.
Banishing of old mascot.
Contempt for traditions.
NIL.
Growth of power and political/economic influence of Power 5 conferences.
The need for financial responsibility and to operate within budget for athletics.
Loss of reputation as a place to play and get noticed.
The need to better provide for student athletes beyond academic assistance.
Larger conference resulting in smaller pieces of the pie from post season successes.
That list is not comprehensive, but is pretty close to insurmountable at this point. Previous Message
Sonoma State has cut their entire program among budget cuts and declining enrollment
Cal Poly just cut Swimming and Diving, Big West down to 5 women's and 4 men's programs after peeling away from the MPSF.
San Francisco State cut baseball, everything but distance track, and men's soccer. Task fell to an interim AD.
SF State and Sonoma have shrunk in enrollment immensely.
Dominguez Hills took a very public approach, communicating with athletes that 9% of the athletic budget is being reduced, but no sports cut at this time.
