CSULB acceptance rate = 38-40% and BYU = 69.2% acceptance rate. ![]() Just to add to what you said UVU and just 5 miles from BYU. BYU has high academic standards and can be difficult to get accepted so many LDS students end up attending either BYU Idaho in Rexburg or UVU. ![]() It has been quoted from commissioner that going for more teams is an active option they are exploring, nothing concrete. Lots of conjecture about demise of WAC, former talks like Denver, Texas schools that don't have football, California schools dropping football, etc. Davis never became the power most thought they could become. Unique college town, high academics, solid facilities. They had a good stretch in some sports like XC, Golf, but have been just one of the bunch since joining. Hawaii has been solid in their main sports, but their athletic department has been hampered immensely by their football malaise since they shut down Aloha Stadium. Hawaii men's volleyball will still be around which is positive. Utah Valley would shock me if they aren't added at this point. They aren't really part of Salt Lake City metro, but in a growing area and not far away, growing public university. In the heart of Mormon territory of Orem, 88% of households are Mormon. I still think a decent add, great momentum on campus, but not in the league of BYU, Utah, Utah State, and not really drawing much from the greater SLC metro area. Kind of the fall back for those who don't get into BYU. ![]() I like both moves. Cal Baptist is close and fans can travel to games much easier that going to Davis and Utah Valley will be a good replacement for Hawaii. Davis won't be missed that much as they were mediocre in most sports and IMO Hawaii will be missed as Long Beach developed and good rivalry in Volleyball and basketball. I wonder if the BW will try to go beyond 11 teams down the road. ![]() Utah Valley is predicted to join the BW after their NIT tourney ends. From February 24th. https://www.ksl.com/article/51260845/utah-valley-could-reportedly-be-set-to-move-conferences-as-soon-as-friday ![]() Welcome Aboard! I'm fine with it. Not game changing, but all the same an addition. I have always thought limiting to California is not a great idea, and now being SoCal only isn't great since there isn't even a regional sport network to sell rights to (well, not one that will actually purchase our rights). But those issues aren't Cal Baptist's fault. None of the Big West universities are making giant strides in financing their departments. Cal Baptist has built up their facilities and has nationally competitive programs in some sports, as well as isn't a dog in many main Big West sports. They add to much needed sports like Men's Tennis, Waterpolo, Swimming Diving, Soccer. We lose Hawaii and Davis, so really not spreading any conference funds any less. In fact, having less members puts more costs to each school to run the conference office. Maybe it feeds the mini rivalry that can help each grow in Riverside/IE. Doesn't cost us anything, and they are funded better than most the Big West schools. ![]() |
