Everyone who transferred did so for NIL $$. Hmmm choice, stay here for one more year making almost nothing in NIL if that, for a coach we can't get motivated to play together for unless his job is on the line, or, make a bunch of money off our magical end of season run and set myself up... C'mon I don't buy this Monson is such a great guy and coach thing is why they all left. They would have thought more about leaving, I grant you that...but still would have left. NIL WILL KILL the fun that used to be Div I ![]() What happened at St. Francis this week will become more commonplace in mid-major Division 1 basketball. If a mid-major has a player who is talented that player will transfer to a Big 5 school who can offer more money. Notice that for the first time in awhile there are no mid-majors left in the sweet 16. I have no idea if Aboubacar Traore received any or much money in his three years at LB. He transferred to Louisville probably because Monson was let go, but I'm sure he received some money. When a player goes in the portal he becomes a free agent nowadays. TJ Wainwright mentioned his agent so you know now every player that is talented and in the portal has one also. Schools can now bid on a players services when recruiting in the portal. If LB attains a player who is performing well the chances of keeping him will be minimal. Notice there are very few women college basketball players leaving schools because so few are making any NIL money. It's very sad but college basketball is now made up of numerous free agents seeking their share of the money. The rich will get richer and many mid-majors who can't keep up will go to division 2 or 3. It's reality! |
