There were many other HBCU's and other universities that got money. Also, George W. Bush Presidential Center got money. As did a few energy organizations, one linked with China. A Veteran PAC that puts veterans in political careers. She's giving it to a lot of places. Would I have liked CSULB to have gotten some, sure. A rich person is giving to a number of causes, some seem fully philanthropic, mainly along DEI/climate lines, and some that might be for influence in areas they want to have favor in.

Her team was subjective. For example in one article they mention "Universities benefiting from Scott’s philanthropy were chosen because they do not typically see major donations." So did LB have too much other philantrophy?
Mentions DEI in leadership positions, so Jane was there but is white and before that we had white males, was that a knock?
Also, it specifically mentions areas that were under served by other funding and programs. So if we were serving those communities already, then that would eliminate us from consideration?
I do think we could/should do better in outlining goals for the university and vision of student success based on achievements not demographics. And that seems to not have been considered either way by press releases regarding Bezos donations. Previous Message

Your local sales tax increases and property tax increases fund construction, such as the Long Beach citizens passing the nearly $1 Billion measure last year.
Note, they have funding lining up to redo the stadium and make a true athletic center and arena. Athletics are considered educational opportunities and funded as such, not a separate budget like the CSU. No state wide entity can really stop them. Previous Message
Jeff Bezos ex wife giving away tons of money she got in the divorce. Gave Foolerton a giant wad of cash and yeah LBCC got some too I think. She and her team did their due diligence there was no application and we didn't make the cut. Somehow we didn't look as effective as Foolerton in serving the under priviliged. If I am not mistaken LBCC received millions of dollars from someone I forgot which celeb gave a bunch of college money a few years ago and we didn't receive a dime. Previous Message
Attended HS team Beach Volleyball finals.
LBCC has a very impressive facility with amenities (big working scoreboard).
Pathetic how bad our facilities are compared to even community colleges. Realize the Stare finds the cars but just another reason why we need are a joke after the last 2 A.D.'s.
But let's shove every dime, like the homeless Big West Conference wants, into the worst Big West basketball program (bottom 50 in D1) with a horrendous coach.
If you get a chance, swing by LBCC and depress yourself. They did it right.
