To me, the data indicates that 39% of Tier 3 athletes who opted for the portal transferred to either a tier 1, tier 2 or tier 3 school.
Perhaps there are more than a few NCAA D1 athletes will read this and just stay where they originally signed.

From the "Field of 68" citing an analysis conducted from 2019-2024 MBB transfer portal:
** Overall, 65% of all transfers either transferred down or did not find a home
* The study broke it down to three tiers:
*Tier 1: consists of ACC, B10, B12, SEC and Big East findings were that 70% transferred down or found no home. The 30% that transferred within Tier 1 typically transferred to a lesser Tier 1program
Tier 2: consists of A-10, AAC, MWC and WCC. 17% of Tier 1 transfers transferred to Tier 2
Tier 3: consists of the balance of mid-major conferences. 61% of transfers either transferred down (DII, DIII, or NAIA) or did not find a home. 21% of Tier 1 down transfers ended up at a Tier 3 schhol
