Save your efforts.
I don't think there will be a wholesale elimination of athletics, but I do think there will be huge changes soon, and I hope I am wrong on this. Money is tighter than I have ever experienced. I don't think we will leave D1 100%, and I don't think we would join D2. Sports are an add-on to the mission and vision for higher education. I have no answers, just what I hear from people in the know with their fingers on the pulse. This type and level of information is what I share here.

I am attempting to cultivate you as a credible inside source for this type of information. We'll work on establishing/strengthening the credibility later.
You have stated repeatedly that you're simply grateful to have a team to watch play. While we all want more than just a team to watch play, I believe that your comment is informed by your knowledge of the budgeting and issues on campus.
That stated, what are your thoughts? What is the likelihood of the wholesale elimination of athletics at LB? Dropping out of D1 to D2? Retaining just a few teams and petitioning for some sort of Title IX relief? And if any of this were to happen, over what time span?

I think a move down to D2 and elimination of most sports would be more likely.

I have a fear athletics could be gone at the end of this year. No real AD, caretaker underneath a special appointment, no real President, cleaned house of all extra development positions years ago, pushed out all of the long time coaches who have huge connections to former donors and alumni (they were all pushed out fyi). Why would they do that? Cut sports or eliminate it all together would be a possibility.

Reviewing the womens soccer and volleyball rosters it appears we took it in the shorts. Ten volleyball players are gone from the 2024 roster with 4 going to schools that have nil money. Five players are unaccounted for. Soccer did a lot better with a number graduating and only 1 player unaccounted. The good news for the team is Cox and Antonucci are back for injury seasons.
I am being to believe that SDSU was glad to see Smitheran and the assistant basketball coach leave. It appears we have become the dumping ground for not so good presidents and athletic admin personnel.
I used to think Pete Peterson and Stephen Horn were the worst presidents we had, Conoly and the rest of the aforementioned group tops them all.
