Hope DMX can keep off the injury list this season, he plays a bit herky jerky so I won't hold my breath. Good for Nagy to get a win in a scrimmage against his old team, wonder how he did? Got to know his parents pretty well last year at games.
On paper we should be considered one of the worst teams in the BW. If it weren't for DMX returning, we might be picked last.
If they grow into some solid or better team defense, they could be a notch or two better than predicted and might sneak into the middle of the BW pack. If a couple guys develop as decent go to scorers and the team offense gets them good looks, maybe steal a few more wins. The incoming guys seem to have better 3pt% stats than last years iteration, just guessing though and if its better its not by much.
What I'm trying to say and being really nice about, this team could be very bad if they don't figure out strong, connected team defense and some team offense. And they could be halfway decent especially if they commit to and deliver high level team defense.
I have heard they are connecting as a team much better than last year's thrown together rag tag bunch. You can sense some sort of comraderie from the social media posts. Hope that is true.

DMX didn't play in the scrimmage as he is still nursing a sore ankle. He's about a week to ten days until he can go full speed. He is needed for defense and rebounding.

You aren't giving up but you just typed "Digging into the roster this year this is some of the worst talent we have had in a long long time."

Quick and athletic and yet were out here struggling to Point Loma?
I mean there should be zero excuse for that if we are halfway talented.
Heard a lot in the past about athletic teams we have and then we can't defend or hit an outside shot to save out lives.
I'm not giving up. I'm just not giving this team the benefit of the doubt to start.
I'm full on the Acker was a bad hire train so I just don't see where this magic will be when this team is markedly worse on paper than the terrible squad last year

I wouldn't give up on our new roster quite yet. The players I saw at a practice are quick and athletic. Time will tell.

It's good to see the men's basketball team picking up right where it left off. A 79-74 secret scrimmage loss to Point Loma at the Pyramid yesterday.
This program has seemingly taken a nosedive with Acker/Smitherin running the show.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Secret scrimmages can produce weird results. And Kenpom likes the team more than I would have guessed. Plus Point Loma is good — they beat CSUN in the same scrimmage last year...and CSUN turned out to be a quality team.
That said, it's not a good result, and doesn't instill any confidence that this year will be better than last. To add insult to injury...Andrew Nagy plays for Point Loma lol.
