Good observations. I saw a team coming together.
However, I feel for Acker with NIL and player turnover, it is hard to build a winning team. We are the poor kids in the block. I do not see that changing anytime soon. Our endowment is low, about $250M, the second lowest in the BW, only Bakersfield is lower. Endowments fund scholarships which are dIfferent from NIL money.
This time next year we will be seeing another whole new team.
I hate to be a downer, but since 1981, I have not seen any improvements . It has only got worse.

I see a group of guys coming together more each game and that's a good sign. Only DMX, the coaching staff, and fans are on an 18 game skid, everyone else has lost 4 in a row. I don't see bad body language, Acker for this game looked collected. S. Illinois is a good team, reminds me of a top 4 BW squad.
LB Defense: it was decent except for the fouling but it wasn't a hack fest the refs called our aggressive style tightly, notice the Redbirds didn't play such aggressive d and they had good ball control and that can cause the refs to focus in on an aggressive defensive team and call contact regularly. I hope we only try to refine our aggressive defense rather than falling back and playing soft. I like how we kept them without a basket for 4-5 minutes twice (although they got a few FTs in those spans).
LB Offense: I am surprised at how its coming together, vs UOP and now S Illinois neither of those teams plays d like SDSU but they aren't slouches either, and our guards had their way for some significant stretches. I don't see any of our guards being assist machines so get used to less than 15 per game unless the team really gels on offense. The ball control was excellent only 6 TOs, but the Redbirds defense was kind of soft but there weren't a slew of unforced TOs. Good sign. 3 pt shooting was very good, not sure they can keep up that hot a clip but it shows they have potential.
Majstorovic can be a beast against slower defenders he's got a great inside outside offensive game, is a tough rebounder at times, court leader, fire in his belly, good footwork on d, good passer. Throw in that Levillian is coming along and was efficient, if we can get any consistent play from our 3 tall bigs and the guards keep up the pressure on offense, I might be really surprised at the offensive efficiency...will be interesting to see the next tough, active d thrown at us, how we handle that.
I think we played very well on offense, ok overall on defense we need to create more TOs, but the big reason for the loss was we lost the FTs made battle 31-10. How we kept it to a 2 pt loss only was we dominated in other areas, 36-31 rebounds, and 10 3's to their 5 made 3's.
One thing I really like about our guards it appears they are all pretty evenly talented, they all have a good handle and dribble drive and showing both 3 pt strokes and some mid range. Between Bender, Lewis, Sykes, and Diaz, I see 4 interchangeable guards who can kind of do it all well when they are on. Sykes might have the tools and minutes to contend for BW FR of the year. I see Farrell and C Jones as smallish but capable wing defenders at this point.
I like the fight, the team didn't underperform they probably overperformed on offense, they didn't wilt fought back from multiple 10 pt deficits against a good team, and were just a few this or that's away from the win. Hope they can continue to improve, play better all year, and beat Montana St. Friday and end this skid against DI opponents.
