We still need to make the BW tourney, and would be great to win a game or two.
The key to new D1 atmosphere is who you can hold onto to keep a culture and system in place. If you can keep 2-3 starters at least they are a known quantity.

Why we have so much trouble inbounding the ball and beating a press is a mystery to me. I think Lewis, after losing his starting job a few weeks ago, has been playing the point better than he was earlier on. I wish he wouldn't dribble so much to get the offense started. We have too many players who want to hold and control the ball and are looking for their own shot instead of passing the ball. This wastes shot clock time and sometimes results in a very bad shot. I often hear Acker yelling, "Move the Ball!' Hawaii passed the ball much better than we did against them.

I think players are developing decently, and that was a strong suit of assistant coach Phillip Scott if you read his bio and other information. Acker came in stressing player development.
Some things are stubbornly continuing, like offensive fouls on screens and tentativeness inbounding the ball and breaking the press sometimes. There has been improvement because it was so awful earlier.
The offense has developed nicely and I imagine if we ever have a team with 3 or 4 legit offensive weapons and a good pg we could be a scoring machine.
Our team defense is the one area we are lacking and way behind. Individuals are doing ok at defense usually, but as a team its very poor. Acker has said he wants our defense to be in the same area as SDSUs incredible team defense, but I think we don't have the kind of athletes necessary for that right now.

Last season and earlier this season, there was a lot of talk about the quality of our players and our coaches. Well, I think that it is time to say that both the players and our coaches are making some good progress!!!
In past seasons, there were questions about our coaching staff's ability to develop players. In my opinion, this coaching staff has come a LONG way in the last two seasons on the player development front. I am starting to feel that our men's basketball program is in good hands and that we are going to make some noise both in this season and the ones to come.
What are your thoughts on the subject???
Sorry that I had to watch the game on TV this afternoon, but after the drive to Pepperdine and back to Canyon Lake, I was just not up for another drive into Long Beach this afternoon.
