4 freshman started, although every match this year we've had 3 frosh anyway. Myles Jordan at OH for Kandev who wasn't even in the building (sick?). Varga sat it out. We definitely are a notch less effective without those two studs, but still hit .530 as a team including huge matches from Gajek (.786 12 kills) and Bloom (.625 10 kills).
Gajek seems happy and engaged with his mates, so hopefully the moodiness is easing as he gets more PT. He's a dynamic force on his attacks, can serve some wicked stuff, and gets involved enough on the block to be a net positive.
Pazanti is struggling sometimes, some fairly routine sets are going a bit south. Then he dials in a perfect set for a big kill and I will chalk it up to consistency issues is all.
Middles Cryst and Braun were effective, sophomore xfer Marquadt got some time late and looked very effective super quick off his feet and can smash a good set.
Jordan hit for a low % at 6-2 but athletic he still doesn't appear to be starter material overall but being developed as one of the LB wild cards who can calm down serve receive and get smart kills off and through blocks. His serve isn't anything special but he rarely has an error.
I think every challenge was won by both sides.
Next week #16 Penn State rolls in, hope the crowd is much larger that should be a fun matchup and hope Kandev is ok we'll need him.
