Hi Dave,
I too wonder what that number needs to be. I have an invite form Bobby to a Long Beach State Basketball Champion Circle Lunch Party on March 25. I have no idea what this is about, but Bobby called and asked if I would be there. I said that I would.
I have an idea that this is an attempt to gather some of the High $ donors, and ask them for more money. I do not think that this is a bad idea, but at this time, Susan and I support ALL of our sports teams, and I do not see us putting in a big donation to help just Men's Basketball. If given the chance, I will ask if he is looking for us to drop support to our non-rev sports in order to help just Men's Basketball. I know virtually all of our coaches, and it would be hard for me to stop trying to help all of them, and I am currently donating more money to athletics than I would have EVER thought that I would!!!
I have no idea what the answer is, but generally believe that we need a way to find a lot of new lower end donors real soon, or work a miricale and find a big donor who is NOT ALREADY digging deep into their pockets to support LBS.
Hope that your golf game is doing well. I hope to get back to playing in the next month or two!!! Got tickets for you if you get down this way and want to go to a game!!!

A poster on the BW board from UH is claiming they spent $1.5 million in NIL money. With this money they were able to recruit what many thought was the most talented teams in the BW. Other rumors have had UCSB with some significant donors that have given them some significant NIL dollars. They also had a team that many thought was the most talented in the BW (with which they are a 7 seed).
I know other schools in the league are raising and spending NIL money. This has raised the profile of the BW. We have been ranked higher than any time since the departure of UNLV the last two seasons. A post on the BW board says we are currently #12 in NET.
While the stronger league has significant benefits, it also has significant costs. Can we raise the money to compete in the BW at this time? Some here have speculated that it would cost $500k to keep Sykes, I suspect that number will be low. Our own press releases seem to indicate that Petar was here on an NIL deal this year. If UH is spending $1.5M, what is the realistic number of funds needed to be raised?
