It was mentioned in the final 4 discussion yesterday that the portal is the way for the top teams to remain at the top. They recruit the best of the best freshman and then go to the portal for proven, older players from either other top schools or Mid Majors.They have reduced their recruiting of high school players. Schools like those in the Big West need to recruit from high schools and lower level D2 or NAIA schools. Recruiting is still recruiting. Irvine, CSUN, Santa Barbara seem to do it. The field has changed. The 49ers and other mid majors are training grounds for the nuggets they find. Go get another Sykes and Petar. Washington was never a factor and will not be at his next school unless it is D2. Recruit and then coach.
