So, according to DPitts, UCSD (BW 5th place) is spending $2 mil a year to pay players, we (9th place) are spending $380k. UCSB (7th place)is reportedly about $1.2 million. I don't know what other schools are paying, but I understand the UCI is competitive with the top of the league. Bottom line, I am not sure I buy Acker's pitch that he is doing great given his budget, but having run a business against bigger, better funded competition, I do understand that reality, as an underfunded player, in a business like pro/college basketball depends on 2 key factors. 1) Ability to identify talented players who are under the radar, and 2) Ability to get the most out of the players you do have.
On 1, landing Sykes seems that a case can be made for finding talent. For #2, personally, I think the Coach seems to come up short too often. But, we certainly are not buying him out, so I will support him while he is in charge (3 more years) and hope we can find donors who can at least get us competitive. But, if we cannot spend in the same neighborhood as the competition, it is reasonable to think results won't be comparable.

Do not listen to the unqualified AD and SDSU staff excusing this mess on no money.
These portal guys will get a bit more money.
But, they are leaving because this program sucks and they'd like to at least win half their games.
This "plan" to take all money and fund basketball, while also massively overpaying an unqualified buddy as head coach, will never work.
Decent players will depart no matter the minimal funding in basketball. Mid-major basketball is headed to D2.
But, worse, this head coach is a career # 2 assistant will no leadership skills.
So this A.D. has you all pissing into a hurricane.
Why not use all this cash to fund sports LB can actually compete in. Instead, most all the other sports also in or trending into the dumper (other than MVB, so far).
But, thanks for the chuckles as this chat still follows the unskilled A.D. into finacial oblivion.

How can anyone expect a high school coach to recommend his players go to LBSU with the losing program we have had the past 2 years. Especially with a coach that had no head coaching experience prior to coming to LBSU.
And the other problem is our coach seems to feel he is doing ok?
Season ticket holders will again be fewer next year.
This is not a recipe for attracting donors, especially major donors.
