You beat me to the punch as I was going to post about this game that I attended. Believe it was the Pasadena Bowl where we played Louisville to a 24-24 tie.

The greatest football victory by Long Beach State was the 1970 victory over the then 13th ranked
San Diego State 27-11. This was at Anaheim Stadium before over 39,000 attendees.
This propelled us to our one and only bowl game The Freedom Bowl played in the Rose Bowl.
It was the game in which our star running back, after the game, removed his shoulder pads and displayed a Superman t-shirt. Much to the like of the crowd.

Mine is 3-3-1973 at the LB Arena when Tark and the 49ers beat 6th-ranked Marquette 76-66 in front of a sold-out crowd of 12,987. Al McGuire was livid on the bench in the 4th quarter.
