Beach was strong an overpowered a very tall Loyola team that had 3 very heavy hitters 25-21, 25-21, 25-19. They threw down some tough servive pressure on us which we mostly handled well and I was glad to see the pressure it gets us ready for the next round. Like what I saw the previous night vs St. Francis, Loyola is just missing something, although the 3rd set was close for a while and Loyola looked better until the last 5 to 7 points, when LB just upped its game and closed it out.
Beach block was solid, serving maybe the best all season only 8 service errors to go with 8 aces! Unheard of!
Varga set the tone, Gajek did well but wasn't as dominant as his last match, Bloom got his but struggled a little, the middles did what they do, Cryst is a force serving, he huffs puffs and grimaces his way to 3 aces.
The passing was good given Loyola's pressure although they had 17 errors which pretty much killed em. They outblocked us but sheez they have a 7-2 middle never seen that and he was pretty effective.
All right we await the winner of Hawaii and USC probably will be Hawaii but USC is good. UCI plays Ball State on Saturday, who took out Pepperdine 3-2.
UCLA losing means we go from a slight chance of repeating as national champs to a decent chance. We might even move up to #1 in the rankings but who cares, we just need to win the semis vs whoever then focus on the natty. Anyone can win any night, UCI proved that.
GO BEACH!!!
