Was probably out of his control, as I would guess that the contract to broadcast these game has been in place for some time now.

I just checked on the ESPN app and the game will be on ESPN+. The Irvine game is the earlier game at 3 and will also be on ESPN+. I really feel Butterly the Big West Commissioner should have gotten these games on a major channel.
