A few days ago I mentioned how nowadays you will only keep players if you give enough NIL money or have good coaches in place. Presently our 6 major sports have hardly any NIL money and 3 have winning coaches. The Men's Volleyball and Women's Volleyball programs have 2 coaches on the rise and Softball seems to have found a decent coach. In Men's Basketball we have basically no NIL money to keep players and Coach Acker is not a good enough coach to keep his players merely for his coaching ability. The same situation is happening in Baseball and Women's basketball. At a university like ours if you have little NIL money to spend basically the only other factor to keep a player at your school is the coach. Currently I see no coach except Nick Mcrae who have the influence to keep players. Occasionally we will have a winning basketball program because we may get 3 or 4 Sykes' type players in a given year. It's a crucial time for Long Beach State athletics and with our current financial and coaching situation it indeed looks grim. Also I don't think our present AD has generated anything in the way of optimism.
