Now there is a huge upside in the ability to quickly find information, but the struggle is to balance that with the actual learning that is happening versus relying solely on the tools.

This isn't just hyperbole, the STEM UC professors released a letter: :

Now does that mean university education is useless, of course not. Students don't need to find a book to get knowledge, you don't even need a computer. The phone and AI has replaced hours of research and thought development. And even educators are publicly talking about the struggles going forward, for both students and educators alike.

Nothing that you listed makes sense. Calling university work a joke is ridiculous. Leave it to professionals.

University course work is almost a joke nowadays. I went over with my nephew what tools are available. It's too easy now, and with speed of internet over 5G being factors faster, there is no limit to AI's ability to get information for you.
Testing needs to go back to being mandatory, no open book, no phones. Or a dedicated testing center on campus that can be scheduled for use but that is hard to pull off. Or a tablet that is purchased one time on campus and is extremely hard to hack that is solely for testing purposes.

From today's CA news.
The California State Legislature is poised to pass a bill that will require California State University courses to be taught by a human, an effort to prevent artificial intelligence from taking over course instruction.
Although Senate Bill 928, authored by Sen. Sabrina Cervantes,
D-Riverside does not prohibit CSU employees from using AI in the course of their work, it requires that all university courses be taught by a CSU staff member.
