If you're going to be in Division 1, this is a new expense that is necessary.

I can't see a head coach being able to balance the negotiations with athletes and their reps, team prep, recruiting, and actual basketball coaching.

Most bigger schools will have one for men, one for women. Some schools call it a GM, some add a player personnel director, some add both. Some add Chief of Staff to coordinate everyone as well. Some have Program Coordinators. I've seen wonky things like Directors of Culture.

I think most that fluff is just that when it comes to athletes getting better. It's the contract side that necessitates these positions. A Mid Major having one for both men/women seems okay. Now that person probably needs to be the forefront and communicating constantly with fundraising I would think.
