The last five days not being "good"...do you mean because of the congestion? Was he eating a decent amount? My vet encouraged a "three consecutive bad days" measurement - three out of five was acceptable if they weren't in a row. But there is a definite line between "not good" and "bad". And you will recognize that line.
And since Smokey is a fighter, you are giving him every opportunity to fight, which is the best thing to do. My babies were fighters too, and pretty stubborn . That's why I am encouraging you to keep an eye out for the new, possibly funny things which he may do. They might be subtle, but those were the memories I cherish about the "sick times" with both Mia and Melanie. It was as though the illness/treatment provided an opportunity to release/reveal an additional quality - a sign of the fighting spirit under the failing body, which reinforced the quality of life during those days.
