The first call I made was to the Humane Society of Bergen County. I explained that one of their supporters had recently passed away and that a group of people had raised some money online which we would like to donate in her honor (and did they accept PayPal).
As soon as I mentioned Sheila's name, the woman knew exactly who she was. We shared how much we missed her. She said that Sheila's husband has visited a few times recently. And when I discussed more of the specifics of the funds raised, she said that the Friends of the Library of Rutherford had THEMSELVES donated to the Humane Society in her honor. She said that a few others had as well.
So, the plan was to donate 80% ($380) to the Humane Society and 10% ($47.50) each to the Friends of the Library and to the Community Pantry. Given that one of the recipients has already donated to another in her honor, I wanted to see whether or not the consensus feels that we should proceed with that plan.
I said that I would reach out to the group and that it might take a few days before I got back to her. She is off on Friday, so I will call her on Monday morning.
