trying to find a food to help your older ones eat, something really soft, and something that they will like...I have a suggestion that's working for me.
Our old Fuzzy (17 1/2) is bone thin, drinks constantly (wants only by syringe, I give him it that way, and he laps as it lands on his tongue). He drinks about 200 cc a day. But he didn't care to eat or couldn't eat well. I'd syringe watered A/D. Watered Baby food.
I tried buying pouches of broth treats in packets, that went ok for a while. He'd lap that on his own.
But now I found a canned that he likes as well, it's very very soft and he ate almost a can today. 3 oz.
It's by Royal Canin, and it's specifically Baby Cat Pate. Very very soft, easy for them to lick, and swallow. And he likes it.
On the negative side, it's quite expensive. $1.65 for a 3 oz can. But I don't care, I just want him to eat. I've basically pretty much switched to Fancy Feast now, and tons of specialty foods trying to get a few of mine to eat well. And I buy a case of A/D a week too. I spend more now on 13 (well 14 with Jenny) than I did when I had 30.
Still some issues, Red can't eat regular food, he has those allergies and horrible diarreha, I give him Proplan canned. Seemed to help. But now I find if I make him a grilled cheese (and just give him the warm cheese, that helps his diarreha). So I do that once a day.
Soooooo glad I'm not working. I couldn't keep up with these guys. They need me here 24/7.
Hope everyone's kitties are doing well.
Kinda quiet here again, so thought I'd liven it up!
at our SPCA they use the RC Baby Cat for inappetant kittens, glad it is working for you...will keep an eye out for coupons...when I shop at our Pet Club, sometimes they have the coupons for the higher priced foods...good luck!
I was trying to look for some sort of sensitive stomach food for Red when I came across this. I actually did buy the sensitive food for Red too by RC (they did have some), but that didn't really work. And he didn't really want it.
Still no answer for Red.
I hope all is well by you. How's the kitty your hubby brought back awhile back from overseas doing? She is quite a lucky girl!
Feb 19 is Mira's 3rd anniv of arriving in the US...thnx for asking! nm
to look after the oldies. But you are an amazing mommy and they are getting the best there is. Sorry to hear that Red is still having diarreah issues. I seem to remember that people used to give canned pumpkin for this problem - but I am sure you have already tried that. Cats are like Potato Chips - you can't have just one
the vet awhile back. he got severe allergy issues then, but is under control now (I found it's caused by the gravy style foods). He still has it *alittle*, but he's pretty much ok in that area.
At the same time, he began to lose weight and have chronic diarreha.
They did bloodwork and all looked ok. They think he has IBD. I got Fortiflora for him, but he doesn't really want to eat that. I syringe it sometimes with A/D. But seems when syringed with A/D it doesn't really help. But sometimes it does. Kinda weird. I'm trying to figure what is the cause of his poops and how to control it. But so far I haven't had real luck, til the grilled cheese.
But as of last night, he had diarreha again. *sigh*, and he did have his grilled cheese. So I just don't know.
I think (I'll have to weight him), that he lost a bit more weight too again.
I need to call the vet and advise him how everyone is doing here. Whitey still has walking issues, maybe he broke something?? But he's totally happy and not in pain so that's weird. But he wanted to know how he was doing after the pred. That's been about a month or a little more now and he's a little better, but some days worse, some days better, never totally right. He can walk but if he goes to far, his one leg especially gets a bit weak(?) and he lays down. He does jump up on couch now, but I don't think that helps.
I have to give report to vet how he and Red are doing. They both may need a return trip. Whitey may need to be xrayed? Or he may need a bloodtest for diabetes? But Red I have no idea what we can do for him.
All we can do is keep plugging away.
I hope Darick is doing well still, and I hope your move is *moving* along. You'll have to post pics of the new place.
