I turned 73 on 17 November,Chuck turned 76 on 9 March and we had our 54th wedding anniversary on 14 March. Some days we're like the blind leading the blind but we can still help each other.
Im so glad the aging process doesn't last forever.BTW, we're down to 6 cats now.We would both like to have another dog but we're afraid it might outlive us and theres no one that could take in.
Take it from someone even older (I turned 80 in Feb) the aches and pains don't go away but if you keep active as best you can that's the best thing to do. All of my cats are gone now and Darick, my one remaining dog, won't allow me to get a cat. He is nearly 9 yrs old and needs walking and some ball/rope throwing every day so I have to give him lots of attention.
It might be a good idea for you to foster, or even adopt, an older dog. I understand your worry that a dog may outlive you as I have the same fears about Mr D, but I have arrangements in place with his breeder should the worst happen. Good luckCats are like Potato Chips - you can't have just one
Thank you Sheila...msg

We had a quiet anniversary, but we did ask each other how we have stayed together so long.I said because we couldn't afford a divorce. We laugh more than we used to,mostly about things that our kids and grand children did.
"Getting old sucks, but it sure beats the alternative!"
If you're really wanting another dog, start talking to some of the rescue organizations in your area. Some organizations will foster dogs with older people - frequently older dogs that are otherwise hard to place - and the idea is that the dog can always come back to them if something were to happen to you or you were no longer able to care for the dog. And it's not uncommon for the organization to pick up some or all of the cost since you're a foster and don't actually own the dog.
Together we have so many doctor appointments that taking care of one more animal would be too much,We still have 6 cats but we really do miss our 2 sweet woofers.
Yes it does beat the alternative but sometimes when achy joints keep you awake or your vision changes yet again, its hard to see the forest through the trees.
