She went in for her dental on Thursday. Lost one tooth - not too bad, I guess.
Got her home and let her out of her crate, and she came out walking really weird! Pelvis tucked under, tail down, short choppy little steps with her hind legs.
But she was also still a bit unsteady from the anesthesia, so initially I chalked it up to that. Until she was still walking that way the next morning.
Unfortunately I had a crazy Friday going on at work, so all I could do was call the clinic midday and tell them about it.
They didn't have any really good ideas as to what was going on, and said to just keep watching her.
Well, when I got home Friday night, she was even worse - really tucked under and tense, and just miserable looking. Of course, it was too late to call the clinic, so I just set my alarm for Saturday morning to make sure I didn't sleep in and called the clinic as soon as they opened.
They were able to get her in, and upon exam (with X-rays) found - nothing. She did have some material in one anal gland (they had expressed them at the beginning of February, so this was a bit weird, but still probably didn't account for her discomfort).
Palpating along her spine, the vet elicited a pain response just past her shoulder. But with the X-rays showing nothing, it wasn't possible to say what was going on with that.
Ultimately, we opted to double the post-dental pain meds for the next few days and continue watching her.
Working hypothesis is maybe somehow the handling they did during the dental maybe pulled something or bruised something. That's not exactly what you want to think happened, but there aren't a whole lot of other possibilities.
So she came back home, and I'm happy to say that she does seem to be getting a little better - albeit slowly.
Hard to see my girl so out of sorts, but I'm glad it seems to be resolving. Sure do wish we could read their minds and ask them what's going on!
