Steve update....msg

Still no definitive on what’s causing Steve’s weak and painful back end. The med he gave him did not help. Actually, I’m glad I asked for only 1/2 dose. Glad it’s out of his system.

He’s still walking bad and it still hurts him, but he’s not screaming like before. He purrs and headbutts when I pet
him. He eats, drinks,and uses litter box. That’s a good thing.
He still feels swollen on left side and both his legs or hips hurt but it seems his left leg is worse to walk on. Personally, I think he may have fallen off the cat tree.
Or tried to jump from top and landed wrong or hard in his hips.

I saw him up on the highest spot last week and Bubbles bothering him from the spot below. I moved Steve to the couch so he wouldn’t fall.that was just days before this all started.

If it’s a torn muscle or ligament that’s going to take a long time to heal. Sad cause he’s so old, I hope it heals fast. But he
seems happy enough, not like this weekend. All the pressing and poking and manipulation at the vet for X-rays may have really aggravated the issue.

On a good note, his bloodwork came back all good!!!??? No kidney issues at his age??! Amazing! He has to get past this cause otherwise he’s well. He does have a heart murmur though, but vet wasn’t concerned at his age. Steve will be 18 and 4 months on July 27.

I am glad they didn't find anything broken or torn however, as you say, it is very frustrating to not know the answer to his limp. I hpe he gets well soon, sending you both many prayers, It is such a worry when our little ones hurt and we don't know why.

Torn or pulled. But nothing broken. They found major arthritis too, but seems more like an acute injury. It was very extreme pain. And his side was swollen, vet didn’t notice but “I”
could feel how it was.(I have little faith in doctors/vets)
It definitely was swollen. All in left side. So either THAT was the cause of the pain, or he tore something. It’s more than a limp.

His back legs (mostly left) barely hold him up, and sometimes they don’t. He walks like the German version of a Germsn Shepherd. With lower in the back end. You said there’s two versions I think? I want a shepherd but not “this” way!🙄😬

How’s Mr. D? Limp gone? How’s your cough?

Gram pies limping, felt he has a rough spot embedded next to
his center fleshy paw part. I need to put Vaseline on again or some neosporin. It never ends here it seems. But he’s better thankfully. In bed sleeping next to me in pillow now, purring. 🙂

Summer ones. Knock on wood, I really never had a summer
cold. Feel better soon!

I had a cough that wouldn't stop after a cold once

It went on long enough that I got concerned and went to see my doctor about it. She explained that sometimes at the end of a cold, you can get into a cycle - you cough, which irritates your throat, and in turn, your irritated throat causes you to cough, and on and on. There's also an involuntary "cough reflex" that gets triggered and is very hard to resist.

She said that in order to break the cycle and suppress the cough reflex, I should start to take Delsym cough syrup. I've never given much credit to cough syrups, but I have to say, it did the trick. I still felt myself wanting to cough, but I was able to relax and ignore it and let the urge pass (which I hadn't been able to do before the Delsym) and within just about 2-3 days, I wasn't coughing any more.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that along in case you're dealing with something similar. Delsym. It's good stuff.

Val, I hope Stevie is feeling better and really soon!!! Poor kittie and a senior at that. If his blood work came out ok my guess would be injury vs disease but I am just using logic not any real knowledge. Purrs to you and to your furred ones, especially Stevie!!!

Injury vs disease. I was shocked to hear that all bloodwork was good! At His Age! I want to pick up copy and see. Today.
