A stray came by us a couple months ago. I was trying to gain her trust, so I could get her in to spay. Then she disappeared. She came back Friday evening. I could see her legs were just hanging behind her as she ate, like disjointed. It was sickening. I didn’t know what to do. If I opened the door she’d try to run, I wanted her to eat if she was hungry and there was food she was eating. I tried to watch for her as it hit darker. The raccoons etc came to eat too. They didn’t bother her. Then she was gone.
We searched for her the next day. Dave found her in the one stall, behind a bunch of junk. He left canned food and water. He left and then rechecked. She did eat, that’s really when he first saw how pathetic she looked dragging her legs like a worm to go back behind the junk. She hissed and growled at us, was not going to be easy getting her, but we had to. She couldn’t live like this. It was bad.
I put food for her through the weekend and talked to her gently and after a hiss or two, she’d eat the food I put by her face as she stayed behind the junk. Was hard to maneuver in stall for me, but probably the stuff made her feel more safe. I had to get her but couldn’t use a trap, her legs drug behind her so far, they’d get slammed by the door.
I put a carrier in the stall Monday morning with a fleece blanket in it. I left door open and put food out in front of it. I was hoping she’d go in. It would save me the chance of getting bit, and her the fear and terrible pain of being grabbed. I didn’t know how I was going to get her.
I called the vet hoping to get a drug to sedate her so I could grab her easier. He didn’t call back, but they were open til 8. I went out at 6 to feed her before dark. And life accommodated me, if we can say that. Cause I’d be taking her to pts, which was not a good thing. But she was in the carrier! I would not have to chase her around the stall, maybe get bit in the process and hurt her by grabbing her with what appeared to be a broken back.
I closed the door. She was quiet in there, it much more comfortable than the prickly straw and dirt in the ground. There was a dark cover over the carrier so she felt safe.
Now the hard part, we had to take her for the one way trip to the vet.
She sat quiet all the way there. Poor little girl. We cried. We named her Angel. She needed a name, even for this short time. We didn’t know if she got caught by a coyote or hit by a car, but the damage was really bad.
We didn’t go in with her as they took her away. They don’t let you with this corona virus stuff, but for euthanasia they would. But I thought she’d be more scared with more people so we stayed in car. I wanted to hear from the vet what he thought before letting her go. He called us on phone as we were in the car waiting. She had a broken pelvis and broken leg from what he could feel. Maybe more. Most likely she was hit by a car. Her injuries were severe, her pain was great. It was best to let her go. We knew that when we brought her in. She was put to sleep.
Poor sweet thing, so young and this should not have happened.
We took Angel home and buried Angel alongside so many of our other beloved kitties that left us.
This was an absolutely horrible thing. For her, for us. I hope she’s safe and there’s a much nicer place for her than what she had here.
I have a pic I took of her Friday night, as she ate. But it shows her disjointed legs behind her so better I not post. But she was a beautiful grey long haired girl. She was an Angel, either list, feral or that someone tossed away. So sad, keep her in your prayers. I hope I never experience anything like this again.

Wasn’t easy to do, but it was the right thing.
Yesterday, an old Tom came and chased a young Tom way up a tree in our yard. He climbed up after him. I used to feel sorry for the old Tom, he’s missing a ear. But after seeing how aggressive he was, I don’t . He can eat what I put fir the raccoons, but I’m not giving him any canned anymore. He’s evidently very adept at taking care of himself.
It was evening, and getting dark. I have to get tomorrow and see if the poor cat was able to get back down. He was pretty high up. Say a prayer, I don’t know how I’d get him otherwise. Never ends here. I just want peace. I should bsck iff feedinh the raccoons, then everything would stop coming. Msybe I will start the process and move slowly. But it’s so hard for me if the come.

I know how hard that must have been for you, I am shedding a few tears as I write this. But thank you for giving her the release that she needed - hard as it was - at least she is in no more pain. She sought you out, and you did what was necessary for her, with LOVE.

but I'm glad you were able to catch her and put her out of her misery.
There are going to be so many more animals dumped and more unwanted litters because of this pandemic and subsequent economic hardships.
My co-worker found four kittens in the walls of his house after the momma had them in his crawlspace. When they started walking, they fell between the walls. He punched two holes in the wall to retrieve them and then used them as bait to catch the mom. The mom isn't feral so he will get all fixed and re-homed.
What a wonderful man. nm

That was very kind of him to rescue them, and then to fix them all and find them homes. Bless him for his kindness.
Thanks for that glimmer of light...thank him please...nm
