I have been locked out of Acme because I forgot my password.
At last I am able to be here and a lot has happened in the last year since I had my back op.
I am as recovered as I am ever going to get at my age, so I just keep taking the pain pills.
I don't know if I mentioned that on Xmas day 2021 Pixie broke her foot and had to have plates and nuts put in to repair it. Well she had bad reactions and had to have the metalware removed, however, she is now fine.
Cleo -amazingly - is absolutely fine, rules the house with an iron rod.
Many of you may not know but South Africa is currently undergoing real problems with electricity supplies, the reason being that this corrupt ANC government (with an ever quickly increasing population) has done nothing for the past 20 yrs in the way of maintenance or new electricity providing. No private providers are allowed!!! so currently we are living with about 10hrs without electricity every day in the middle of summer. Many small businesses are going Kaput, large businesses are moving to other countries and thus many more thousands are losing their jobs (our current rate is 48% unemployed).
Apart from all of the downers. I am fine, my dog and cat are fine and it's good to be able to get back here and, hopefully, pickup the threads again.Cats are like Potato Chips - you can't have just one
I lost my password for a while at one point, too. Ended up having a new one assigned and just had to make sure I kept it in a secure place. I sure do hate having to keep track of all these passwords for everything!
I'm glad to hear your back recovery is going well (relatively speaking). I assume keeping active also helps (and knowing you, I bet you're still keeping active!).
Sorry to hear Pixie's plates didn't work out. I had a broken arm a number of years ago and had a plate put in and I didn't even know a bad reaction was a possibility! Good thing her foot was able to heal without it!
I can't imagine what it would be like to not have electricity for nearly half of every day. Does "no private providers" mean you can't even use your own generators or install some form of solar? I can see why businesses would choose to relocate elsewhere, but how much longer can your economy remain functional with 48% unemployed? That's really scary.
I don't know if you scanned down the board, but my Sara has been having some movement issues from her hip dysplasia which was diagnosed when she was only a few years old, so I decided to try chiropractic care for her, and it seems to be helping. She was doing things like falling back when she tried to jump up on the bed, and now she's able to jump up again. Not as effortlessly as she could when she was young, but at least she's still able.
She goes about every 8 weeks. In November I got Covid (I have no idea how I caught it as I'm very careful) and it happened to coincide with one of her chiro appointments. A friend offered to take her if the practitioner would agree to it (she did) so at least my illness didn't interrupt her treatment schedule.
I'm not someone who has much experience with chiro, but as long as this seems to be helping her and I can avoid putting her on all sorts of medications, I plan to keep it up.
It's good to hear from you again.
Wow, sorry to hear about Sara...msg

is a FHO (femoral head osteotomy) a possibility for the dysplasia? If it gets to a point that the chiro stops working, that may be a thing to consider. Cheers to you and the gang...
The dysplasia was diagnosed when she was only about 3. I don't know if FHO wasn't being done at that time or if my vet didn't know about it, but it was never mentioned then. Of course, she was essentially asymptomatic at that time, so there was probably no need.
I do know that when her gait irregularities started showing up a few months ago and I Googled feline hip dysplasia, that was one of the first things that came up. I haven't brought it up with my vet as the chiro seems to be working, but I suspect it's not going to be such a good idea for an older cat, especially as it apparently relies on muscular support to fill in functionally for the bone which is removed, and she's now showing some age-related muscle-wasting in her hindquarters. I don't think she'd have enough strength to support herself after that kind of a procedure. (And I also have to wonder how cats who have it done when they're younger fare as they age, since a certain amount of muscle wasting is a normal part of the aging process).
She also has some minor curvature of the spine, and I'm sure that also affects things. But for now, the chiro seems to be helping, so we'll continue with that. So far, so good! (She was playing "fighting stallions" with Kira about half an hour ago. I love to see that!)

I'm so sorry about Sara's diagnosis, I took Bronte to hydro therapy, light therapy and acupuncture as she got older, I do thinkk it helped her a lot.
We can get Solar and generators, but at my age I would never ever recover anything like the cost, so all it would do us make my present costs double. I had big shock on 13th of this month - trying to pay an outstanding medical bill - not enough in my account. We are all battle g our way financially these days.
Anyway I was so eased to see you back hereCats are like Potato Chips - you can't have just one
That's a shame

I know it's expensive, but at least you'd have electricity. But - of course - you also have to have money!
We're dealing with some pretty high rates of inflation these days, and gas prices that really have people re-thinking how much driving they want to do every day. It's scary. I know I've cut back on a lot of things. And of course, having made the commitment for Sara's chiro, I can't really cut back on that, so I am stretching out the length between appointments as long as I can. But still keeping an eye on her to make sure she's still doing okay. It's so hard as they get older.
But she's still a happy cat (and much more affectionate as she gets older compared to the wild child she was in her youth, which is nice, I must admit!). As long as she's enjoying life, I'll keep doing what I can to keep things good for her.
It's all we can do for them.
