Interestingly enough, I gave Tyson acidophilis regularly April – end of May, during which time he had fabulous weight gain, but for one reason or another (mostly stress) I stopped giving it to him, and he has generally lost weight since. I guess I just never put two and two together. Thank you again! Now I have a few additional questions & concerns. Tyson is at a very critical point—very low weight and a lot of coughing night & morning. He seems to be losing energy every day. Right now he’s mostly laying around playing just a little bit here and there. The CF nutritionist called this morning (right in the middle of one of Tyson’s coughing fits) and I shared some of the things I learned from you. She suggested a lactobicilious GD (sp?) by culturelle.com and said that they use Zantac to help balance Ph in the gut. (I’d go for the homeopathic remedies you mentioned before resorting to that.) She said those things are great but don’t really effect his weight or his cough. She suggested I put him on a higher calorie mixture of pregestimil formula(27cal/oz), and put him on a continuous feed. She also got concerned about his cough—and said she’d talk to the doctor. They called later and scheduled a sick-visit for tomorrow morning. I’m really nervous because there’s a big chance they’ll send him straight to the hospital for IV Antibiotics. I really don’t want to do that unless I absolutely have to! Is there any reason for me to hold-off on that until we see if some of these other things really will make a difference? I’ve been talking with his doctor about GSH, and after he looked it up on the CFF web-site, he has been more open to the idea, however, he’s hesitant to try anything “experimental” on a baby with such delicate health. He said we’d talk more about it more on his next visit. Since then we went ahead and started Tyson on oral GSH (and we’re thinking seriously about starting inhaled GSH—delicate health or not). So… I guess I’m a little nervous about letting him know that too. He’s a really nice & understanding doctor, and I want to stay in a trustful relationship with him, but at the same time I don’t want to sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting for permission to do something I feel Tyson needs right now. I guess the main thing I’m asking is this: Are there any at least semi-concrete reasons why I can say no to the antibiotics for now, or at a critical point like this should I just trust their way of handling things? Sorry these are so long—I want to give detail so you understand the whole picture better. Thank you,
Tami
