I've been thinking alot recently about your post, Carrie. You are so right that we need to be diligent and aggressive in the CF care. But, I worry about just this situation: how can one know to be aggressive if the kid isn't really showing any signs of problems? If the CXR is ok, and there's no breathing/coughing issues, then, yeah, we figure the lungs are doing ok. At some clinics, they wouldn't do CT scan just for a baseline, there would have to be problems present. And, I also struggle with: is there isn't a presenting problem, are we putting the kid thru unneccessary testing? Katie is the same way, no lung issues, no cough, full of engery, CXR clear. But I have really worried this past year about the unseen lung damage that may be happening, esp since we did have the long bout with PA. Unfortunately, Katie is too young for PFT's yet. Does anyone else have any views on pushing for a CT scan even if the CXR is normal? Thanks! Kim |
