I agree, the things we didn't know at the time like CRM, maintaining positive control of the airplane (Pilot Flying, vs Non-Flying Pilot), and the installation of GPWS (Ground Proximity Warning Systems); all would have likely lead to a different outcome. I've only been flying since the mid 1990's, Ironically, I've flown very modern planes like the Airbus A320 and MD11 and older models like the 747-200, which much like the Tri-Star are quite antiquated and require a much sharper crew in my opinion.. the contrast between the two generations of airplane in terms of equipment and technology is amazing.... those men back then were working with what seemed like state of the art technology but in reality it was very basic and filled with weaknesses that would be uncovered over the years.. I am sorry for the loss of your friends and coworkers at EAL... We have a couple of former EAL guys working with us here... it was a great airline.. my dream job when I was a kid.
