We will not forget

The Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO posted this on Facebook today: “ Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 was a Lockheed L-1011-1 Tristar jet that crashed into the Florida Everglades on December 29, 1972. Two Flight Attendants, two pilots and 96 passengers died. Eight Flight Attendants and 67 passengers survived. Despite their own injuries, the surviving Flight Attendants were credited for helping other survivors and several quick-thinking actions such as warning survivors of the danger of striking matches due to jet fuel in the swamp water. Flight Attendants also kept survival spirits high by singing Christmas carols to keep up hope and draw the rescue teams' attention. This was critically important as flashlights were not part of the standard equipment on commercial airliners at the time. Every day we honor the memory of those lost through our actions as aviation's first responders and our union’s work for the safest laws and regulations.” I have read about and grieve again today of the loss of life but find inspiration in the stories of those who lived life to the fullest.
