Iwas an Instrument Mechanic for EAL at the time living in Hollywood,FL area. I stayed up late because there was no work the next day and I was on my front lawn watching my dog make her final "Run" for the nite when the young couple across the street came out. Ron, the husband got in his car and quickly drove off. His wife saw me and came over to tell me that Ron who was a Coast Guard helo pilot at Opa Locka was called in to help with a search/rescue operation in MIA involving "a big aircraft". I went in the house and started checking TV & radio but there was no mention of a crash. I called several stations listed in my phone book & they knew nothing. Finally after almost an hour they all were broadcasting the tragic news. It seems I was one of the very first to be aware of the crash. FOOTNOTE: My wife was an RN at Hollywood Mem. Hospital and some survivors were there. One man was on the Orthopedic floor where she was Asst. Head Nurse and as is common with long term patients, a close relationship is formed over the weeks. One day he asked the question she had been dreading he would some day ask, "Beverly, what does your husband do?"
