The appeal is that U2 were more raw live and go cleaning up the guitar.
It's like someone remixing Live At Leeds and cleaning up the distortion from Pete Townshend guitar to make it more "accessible"
Also 8 songs in the CD vs 17 songs in the DVD.

: >>>Also when you get into U2 I can't
: imagine how it is possible to accurately
: assess U2 as a live artist without reviewing
: Under The Blood Red sky DVD. The Cd is
: completely worthless due to a) incomplete
: setlist b) taking performance from different
: concert c) reducing the distortion from The
: Edge guitar to make the album "more
: commercial"
:
: That doesn't make the CD worthless. That
: just makes the CD a different thing from the
: DVD.
:
: It's not an uncommon thing to do. Pink
: Floyd's Pulse is a good example. The CD and
: the DVD of that are completely different
: shows. the last Genesis live album did it as
: well (though they did title the CD and DVD
: differently in that case, though it's
: obvious they're meant to be counterparts to
: one another).
