that the WRC is pretty indifferent towards U2, especially Music Babble.

I myself am not too fond of them, honestly. When it comes to Irish rock and roll, I prefer Thin Lizzy to U2. They were both more intelligent and had a bit of a cooler sound. And they were the opposite of pompous and pretentious for the most part.
